Help wanted

April 27, 2012

Teignbridge Council’s Green Spaces Department are keen to learn more about the gardens. They would be grateful for any stories, maps or photographs that could help establish the history of this area for future generations.

Do you have, or know of anyone who has, an interest in the history of Homeyards Botanical Gardens, Shaldon and the immediate surrounding area?

Do you have any relatives that lived in Shaldon from the 1900s to the present day that may have recollections of the gardens?

Do you have any old pictures in your loft/attic of any family occasions in the gardens from the 1940s onwards?

If you have any information large or small that you are happy to share, please contact Jane Sharp, Project Officer Green Spaces Department, Teignbridge District Council, Forde Road Offices, Forde Road, Newton Abbot, TQ12 4AD, or email or call 01626 215751.

A look back in time

April 18, 2012

We received some old photos last year from Roger Willis.  The two shown here are scenes of locations well known to Garden visitors

1927 - Castle table view         1927 - The Castle

We have also been contacted by 2 families whose antecedents worked at the Liqufruta factory, and it seems that Mr & Mrs Homeyards would bring their workers to Shaldon for their holidays. It seems they camped at Wakeham’s Field.
